Explorer Program Coordinator (temporary position)

The Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences, Inc. (BIOS) is a US incorporated 501 (c) (3) ‘not-for-profit’ marine research and education institution incorporated in New York State and based in Bermuda since 1903.  BIOS currently employs a multi-national staff of approximately 100 people.  Additional information on BIOS can be found on the World-Wide-Web at http://www.bios.edu/

BIOS seeks a dynamic, energetic Program Coordinator to oversee the creation and daily operation of the BIOS Explorer marine-science expeditions.  This temporary position involves planning, implementing and filming the summer science activities of teenagers involved in the program, both underwater, in the field and in the laboratory.  The successful applicant will work under the supervision of the BIOS Education Officer and with the assistance of a university intern.

Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
• Preparations for the Explorer Summer Expeditions (Waterstart programs), both SCUBA course and curriculum
• Successful running of the Expeditions including teaching all aspects of the SCUBA courses and filming curriculum activities
• Concluding SCUBA paperwork and editing video assets into finished video clips

Specific duties include:
 Pre-Program: Draft curriculum framework and video story board; prepare/service dive gear as necessary; prepare program paperwork (SCUBA lesson materials)
 During Programs: Direct students in science investigations, film activities according to storyboard; teach SCUBA courses, both in and out of water; supervise students to ensure safety at all times
 Post Program: Edit video assets to create finished video clips; conclude SCUBA paperwork, certifications

Minimum Qualifications
• Scientific degree (BSc) with experience in marine biology
• Current, certified PADI Open Water Diving Instructor
• Experience producing video resources including filming, editing and production
• Advanced working knowledge of electronic resources (MS Word, Outlook, Excel)
• Experience teaching in a classroom setting
• Capable of working independently
• Good written and oral communication skills
