The Magistrates’ Court is seeking honest, reliable and mature individual to work under the supervision of the Magistrate.  The postholder will provide a range of services to the Court to enable the Magistrate to discharge his duties and responsibilities in an effective and efficient manner.  The Secretary also provides secretarial and clerical services to the Magistrate and performs associated duties within the Magistrates’ Court.

 

The position involves dealing with a wide variety of individuals and situations, therefore, the ability to deal with people of all backgrounds. In addition, applicants must have a mature personality with a pleasant and suitable temperament is essential.  The applicant must be capable of maintaining their professionalism at all times and cope under pressure with minimal supervision. 

 

Applicants must have successfully completed their BSC or equivalent and a secretarial course of one (1) year’s duration, with typing speeds and shorthand skills of 60 w.p.m. and 100 w.p.m., respectively. Applicants must be capable of operating within a computerized, professional environment.

 

The post holder may be required to work irregular and unscheduled hours to meet deadlines or to complete workload demands.  A flexible approach to work is therefore essential.  Knowledge of court procedures will be an asset. The successful applicant will be skills assessed.
