The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) is a Government Department within the Ministry of Tourism & Transport and is responsible for the regulation of civil aviation in Bermuda.

 

Applications are invited for the post of Head of Operations, who will be responsible for ensuring that all national and international standards of flight operations, aerodrome, personal licensing, security, and the safe transport of Dangerous Goods by Air, are achieved by the effective management of the Operations section.  This includes responsibility for oversight and regulation of airlines, operators, approved companies, private owners, licensed flight crew, aircraft engineers, and for all aircraft on, or desiring acceptance on, the Bermuda Register of Aircraft or aircraft transiting through L.F. Wade International Airport.  The post holder will also be responsible for ensuring adequate standards of operational policies and procedures, qualified staff, data management and integrity, and industry regulations are in place and effective.

 

The post holder must possess a Bachelors degree in a relevant subject area, and an Air Transport Pilot License (ATPL), preferably issued by a member state of EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency), the FAA (Federal Aviation Authority) or by TC (Transport Canada).

 

A minimum of ten (10) years relevant experience is required, which must include a minimum of five (5) years in a flight operations inspection function and a minimum of three (3) years of senior management experience, in addition to, five thousand (5,000) flying hours as pilot-in-command (PIC).

 

It is desirable that the post holder will have previously held a position in operational management, as an airline pilot and designated examiner, or training instructor, or as a military pilot where equivalent experience in Air Transport Operations would have been acquired.  Consideration will be given to applicants who do not possess the educational requirements, but exceed the experience requirements.

 

This position requires excellent interpersonal, influencing and communication skills (both verbal and written), the ability to build and maintain productive and positive working relationships and excellent problem solving and decision making skills.
