Architectural Technician

Applications are invited for the post of Architectural Technician within the Department of Architectural Design and Construction of the Ministry of Works and Engineering.

 

Working under the supervision of the Senior Architect, the successful applicant will be responsible for developing and managing Architectural Projects, assisting in Contract Administration and carrying out general administration assignments within the Department.

 

Other duties include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Organizing Schematic Designs from Client briefs incorporating all technical, functional and financial considerations, and input from structural, electrical, mechanical engineering and other services.
  • Preparing Design Development drawings including Architectural Details and fitting requirements.
  • Consulting with and negotiating approval from Client Departments on the detailed Architectural Design.
  • Reviewing construction of the work for general conformity with the Contract Documents; chairing site meetings, coordinating engineering services and taking corrective actions as required.

 

Applicants must have completed a technical qualification at an advanced level three (3) years beyond completion of secondary education or obtained the higher National Certificate from the British Institute of Technicians or equivalent certification from the U.S. or Canada.

 

A minimum of three (3) years experience in preparing detailed drawings and specifications within a professional architectural office and related Contract Administration experience is required. Applicants must have a general knowledge of all aspects of Architectural Design together with a sound background in construction methods and technology. Proficiency in the latest versions of AutoCad is required. Familiarity with American Institute of Architect (AIA) standard Contract Documentation is an asset.  In addition, applicants will be required to undertake an assessment/skills testing.
